Optional Smoothie Add-ins
The best part about making smoothies at home is that you can customize all of the ingredients for your own taste buds. Don’t like banana? Swap it for avocado. Don’t have coconut water on hand? Try it with your favorite milk or dairy-free milk alternative. Want your smoothie extra cold? Swap the water for ice or use fresh fruit instead of frozen.
Looking to take it a step beyond that? Try including some of these popular add-ins to make your smoothie uniquely yours.
- Leafy greens like baby kale or spinach
- Chia seeds or flax seeds
- Whey protein powder
- Oats or oatmeal
- Collagen powder
- Spices like cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, or clove (a little goes a long way!)

Elizabeth that sounds delish!! You ca’t go wrong adding a banana to a smoothie.
I have never tried kiwi and pear together before but this looks like a winning combo for a smoothie!
Thanks Marlee! It’s a little out of the norm, but it’s such a delicious switch up!
I love vegan smoothies (I use almond milk) but have never tried one with pear and kiwi! You’ve definitelely inspired me. Yum!
Most of my smoothies are milk based, but the coconut flavor works so much better with the acid of the kiwi. If you try this with almond milk I’d love to hear how it turns out.
